Belle Hissam was born in Wilmington, North Carolina in 1995. They are currently finishing their BFA undergraduate degree at Appalachian State University. They currently work through drawing, printmaking processes, embroidery and book making. Their work mainly focuses on plants, forms, gender and storytelling. Through detailed pen drawings, prints and 3D book forms they approach and address complex issues of relationships between the subconscious and conscious as well as relationships humans have with the environment.
My current work has been a collection and exploration of gender. Through hand made genderless clothing, I created a book and a grouping of zines to collect all of my thoughts and the thoughts of other and how they become comfortable within themselves.
